Advantages
Histogenics products use the patient’s own cells to grow articular cartilage. NeoCart is a three-dimensional, neocartilage implant grown from patient’s cells (chondrocytes) outside the body. At implantation in the patient, the cells have produced a hyaline cartilage-like matrix and there are still actively dividing cells which allow integration with the surrounding tissue. The VeriCart matrix allows cartilage cells to grow within its micropores at the site of the damage, either from the patient’s chondrocytes or mesenchymal stem cells added to the matrix.

Intellectual property
Histogenics has a strong portfolio of tissue engineering patents, including three issued US patents and 13 published US patent applications on the structure and function of NeoCart® neocartilage and related products. It also has licensed three patents and 12 patent applications related to the use of high pressure and the tissue engineering processor, and extensive patent coverage for the bioglue component of its scaffolds.
